Fire Safety Outdoors

Defensible Space

Wildland fires are one of the largest threats we face in the foothills. Is your home safe from the threat of a wildland fire? Please go to www.firesafecouncilnevco.com to review the recommended clearances to make you home defensible in case of a wildland fire. You can also visit our Links site and there you will find many resources and valuable information for fire prevention and safety. We encourage you to contact our Fire Department to schedule a free consultation on ways to improve your homes defensible space.

Debris Burning Safety

Here in the foothills, Spring and Fall are our traditional debris burning seasons. It can also be one of the busier times for your fire department due to escaped debris fires, unattended debris fires and sometimes, the unintentional ignition of a structure due to inadequate preparations, attention to conditions and observation until a pile is thoroughly extinguished.

Before you burn you must have a Burn Permit, and you must also verify that it is a “permissive burn day” by contacting Nevada and Sierra Counties-Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District. Learn more below.
